Massa Confusa has been based in Donostia-San Sebastian, Spain since 2017 and is the moniker of artist and musician Ally Morton (Not Myself, Gozer and the Gatekeeper, Youkol, Five Pence Game). Between 2012-2017, Massa Confusa was a duo, and was based in Durham/Newcastle, UK, where Ally was born.

 

Massa Confusa’s music is written, recorded and self-produced, and features a back catalogue of 4 albums (‘Mantras’ becoming the 4th), 5 Eps, various covers, and numerous singles.

 

Since living in Donostia, Massa Confusa has played numerous shows in towns and cities in Spain including Donostia, Barcelona, Bilbao, Tolosa, Bermeo, Azkoitia, and Bergara to name a few. Massa Confusa have also supported Protomartyr on their 2022 tour in Donostia’s Dabadaba venue.

 

Massa Confusa is a strong supporter of the Basque local music scene, attending gigs regularly, sharing other artists’ music on social media and through public playlists, and putting on shows under the name of ‘Día Guay’ in and around Donostia. Massa Confusa have also been part of the electronic/experimental event collective ‘Distopía Mutante’, who have featured acts such as Dame Area, Kollaps and Wackelkontak. 

 

In the UK, Massa Confusa were known for their monthly ‘Massa Confusa Presents’ shows, and DIY record label ‘Clarty Cat’, which put out numerous compilations of music from that time.
